Substance Misuse Recovery Worker - Devon Prisons

Our client is a high performing third sector provider of substance misuse services within a number of prisons in Devon and Dorset. Their mission is: To open doors for people affected by substance misuse so they can improve their lives and those of their families and communities.

In partnership with Dorset Healthcare University Foundation Trust they are implementing a new integrated (clinical & psychosocial) recovery focused substance misuse service within the Devon prisons (HMP Exeter, HMP Dartmoor & HMP Channings Wood). They are looking for a number of additional staff to contribute to the ambitious delivery of the new service.

Based: HMP Dartmoor
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: 18,430 to 25,860 per annum
Contract: Permanent

The appointed person will primarily deliver structured alcohol treatment programmes across the Devon prisons (HMP Dartmoor, HMP Channings Wood & HMP Exeter). They will motivate adult male prisoners to engage in recovery and deliver interventions, including: key-working, strengths based assessment, recovery planning, structured group and 1:1 work; and contribute to the administration of medications and drug testing. Whilst based at HMP Dartmoor, they will need to be available to work in HMP Channings Wood and HMP Exeter for several weeks at a time on a regular basis.

They are looking for people with previous experience of working with substance users including assessment and the delivering of a range of evidence based substance misuse psychosocial interventions in 1:1 and group-work settings. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisation and time management skills with the ability to manage pressure and carry a diverse workload with competing demands. You will be efficient, solution focused and take a flexible approach to work and will need to be enthusiastic about working in the challenging environment of a prison.
