Associate Production Director

My client, a leading manufacturer, is looking for an Associate Production Director to join their Exeter team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Group Managing Director, you will be responsible for all the company`s manufacturing and assembly activities.

Key responsibilities will include:
Manufacturing layout and systems:
* Review existing manufacturing facilities, whether layout, equipment, skills, space or resource against future capacity requirements and recommend future strategy to ensure the company can produce the volumes required at the right quality and cost
* Ensure that production equipment and layout is appropriate and organised in a manner to maximise production efficiency and suitable to capacity and quality requirements
* Plan, direct and co-ordinate all production activities in accordance with future new product plans to ensure efficient introduction of new products
* Ensure that employees are properly trained and machinery maintained is capable of doing the work required
* Ensure that product quality standards are achieved and exceeded and products are produced in accordance with specifications and works instructions
* Ensure that all production employees are working in an effective and productive manner through effective production management at all levels
* Ensure all employees have a safe working environment
* Work with the quality inspection team to consistently improve the levels of in-process and first off inspection with the aim of eliminating rework and scrap caused through production errors
* Ensure ISO9000 procedures are maintained and developed
* Ensure work instructions and route cards are accurate, maintained and developed
* Review manufacturing methods and equipment and make recommendations for improvements that will raise efficiency and/or quality and/or reduce manufacturing costs
* Plan and maintain proactive machine maintenance programmes
* Plan and implement a uniform build programme to ensure stock availability through the seasonal period of sales activity
* Review batch production sizes taking account of setup costs and usage

Staff Management:
* Ensure labour efficiency is monitored and improved
* Effective communication to all manufacturing staff of production targets and performance levels, ensuring appropriate KPI`s are in place to motivate staff
* Promote inclusive staff communication on all issues
* Manage levels of absenteeism for production staff in accordance with the quality objectives
* Strengthen production management throughout the company, and ensure production supervisors are effective in their roles

Commercial:
* Effectively interact with all departments to ensure full and proper communication on all matters
* Review and consider the impact of the new product plans and all other aspects of the company`s strategic plans which have an impact on production and provide recommendations
* Liaise with the Technical Director to ensure existing and new products are designed in a manner that achieves the required technical and aesthetic requirements, but also is cost competitive to produce in a repetitive manufacturing environment

The successful candidate will:
* A demonstrable track record in production management in an engineering product based environment
* A proven track record of managing an ISO9000 production facility and a strong working knowledge of TQM
* Full understanding of computerised ERP systems and MRP systems
* Computer literate across these systems and CRM and Microsoft Applications
* Proven understanding of sheet metal equipment, including laser / plasma cutters, turret punches, brake presses and degreasing / painting processes
* Good understanding of costing systems
* Be an excellent motivator and communicator
* A degree in manufacturing or an engineering related subject is desirable
